The Hosur City Municipal Corporation (HCMC) has undertaken a significant initiative by reviving the inlet channel to Mookandapalli Lake, addressing a long-standing demand of the local residents. This lake, situated near prominent areas such as ESI Hospital, NTR Nagar, and Vasantham Garden Residential Welfare Association, plays a critical role in replenishing the groundwater table for over 1,000 houses.
The revival effort, which includes clearing 330 meters of the channel, comes as a relief to residents who have faced issues like inundation during rains. Vasantham Garden Residential Welfare Association’s president, A. Ganesan, highlighted the decades-long wait for this action and commended the current HCMC Commissioner, H.S. Srikanth, for addressing the problem after a prompt social media appeal in November.
Additionally, HCMC Assistant Engineer M. Prabhakaran confirmed plans to revive the lake’s outlet channel, along with similar efforts for the inlet channel of Dharga Lake. Beyond lake rejuvenation, the HCMC has also committed to renovating an abandoned quarry near Rayakottai Road to prevent illegal waste dumping, as noted by environmentalist and local resident A. Lakshmanan.
These measures are expected to bolster environmental conservation and improve living conditions in the Hosur region.
