Telangana: Congress, BRS In War Of Words Over Attack On Officials

In Telangana, tensions have escalated between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS following an attack on officials in Vikarabad during a public hearing on land acquisition. BRS working president K T Rama Rao criticized the state’s police, alleging that they operate like the Chief Minister’s “private army” to conceal failures in law and order, particularly in Kodangal, the Chief Minister’s constituency. Rama Rao also claimed that the proposed “pharma village” project, intended to benefit a pharma company and the CM’s son-in-law, has been met with strong local resistance.

State Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud responded, stating that if Rama Rao’s involvement in the incident is proven, action should be taken against him, emphasizing that anyone found guilty should face consequences.

In developments on Wednesday, Telangana police alleged that former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, who was arrested in connection with the incident, confessed that the attack was planned under directives from Rama Rao and others. However, BRS rebutted this claim, citing an affidavit from Reddy in which he denied the authenticity of the police report attributed to him. Reddy, now named as the primary accused, faces charges of conspiracy and abetment. The situation continues to fuel political friction as both parties await the investigation’s outcome.
