In Chennai, two separate attacks on doctors occurred on Wednesday, raising concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals. In the first incident at Kalaignar Centenary Super-Speciality Hospital in Guindy, an oncologist was stabbed by a patient’s attendant. Shortly after, at Government Stanley Hospital, a psychiatrist was assaulted by a mentally challenged individual.
According to police reports, Dr. P. Hariharan, a 49-year-old psychiatrist and assistant professor at Stanley Hospital, was attacked in the outpatient ward by S. Bharath, a 24-year-old from Neelankarai. Following a brief altercation, Bharath attacked Dr. Hariharan before fleeing the scene. It was discovered that Bharath had previously undergone a month-long treatment at Stanley Hospital last year.
The principal of Stanley Government Hospital, Dr. Balaji, lodged a complaint with the Washermenpet police station, which has since initiated an investigation. Authorities have launched a search for Bharath, aiming to apprehend him soon.
