In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a fresh encounter between security forces and terrorists erupted in Badimarg village of Yaripora. Acting on intelligence about the presence of two to three terrorists, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area. When security personnel approached a suspected location, terrorists opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
The firing initially took place within an apple orchard, and security forces quickly secured all entry and exit points around the area. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to ensure no escape routes remain for the terrorists.
This incident marks the ninth encounter in the past 11 days in Kashmir. In these operations, eight terrorists, including five foreign nationals, have been neutralized. The increase in encounters follows a surge in terrorist activity in late October, which led security forces to adopt a proactive counter-strategy to preempt attacks and dismantle terror cells across the region.
