In Bengaluru, a jeweller named Surendra Kumar Jain has filed a police complaint after discovering that his security guard, the guard’s wife, and two other workers allegedly stole gold jewellery and cash worth over Rs 15 crore from his home in Vijayanagar.
Jain and his family were away visiting their hometown in Gujarat from November 1 to November 7. When they returned, they found their security guard Namraj, his wife Sushmita, and two other workers, Rajesh and Dyankaran, all from Nepal, had disappeared. Upon inspection, they discovered that cupboards in their five-storey home had been broken into, with approximately 18 kg of gold (including 5 kg belonging to family members) and Rs 40 lakh in cash missing. Efforts to reach Namraj were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
The police investigation revealed that while a safe containing 2 kg of gold and Rs 60 lakh in cash remained untouched, the other valuables were stolen. Namraj and his wife had been living in a small room in the cellar of Jain’s building, while Rajesh and Dyankaran resided in a rented room nearby.
The police noted that Jain had employed Namraj and Sushmita six months ago but had not conducted police verification on them. Before leaving for Gujarat, Jain had instructed Namraj to water the plants on the terrace, which investigators believe facilitated the break-in. CCTV footage captured the suspects entering the house and taking the valuables. A special police team has been dispatched to Nepal to pursue further investigation into the case.
