Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his return to the White House for a second term, marking a significant moment for the India-US relationship. In a phone call on Wednesday, PM Modi conveyed his enthusiasm for renewed collaboration, emphasizing strategic goals shared by both nations.

Following the conversation, PM Modi shared his excitement on social media, posting, “Had a great conversation with my friend, President @realDonaldTrump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space, and several other sectors.” Trump responded warmly, reportedly calling India a “magnificent country” and referring to PM Modi as a “magnificent man.” Trump also highlighted India as a cherished ally and expressed admiration for Modi’s global popularity.

PM Modi, in an earlier post, congratulated Trump on his “historic election victory,” expressing his hopes to build upon the successes of Trump’s previous term. “Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity,” Modi added.

Trump, at 78, secured his win by surpassing the 270 Electoral College votes required, returning to the presidency as both the 47th and previously 45th U.S. president. Addressing his supporters in Florida, he expressed gratitude for the “extraordinary honor” and stressed the importance of national unity. “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president, and your 45th president,” he said, describing this term as an opportunity to foster reconciliation.
