Srinagar witnessed a violent incident on Sunday when a grenade was thrown at a CRPF mobile post, resulting in an explosion at the Sunday Market near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC). At least 11 civilians sustained injuries, though all were reported to have minor splinter wounds. The injured individuals were quickly transported to SMHS Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed they were in stable condition.
The attack is suspected to be an act of desperation by terrorists, following the recent death of a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in an encounter. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as people at the market scrambled to escape. Security forces, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary units, cordoned off the area to search for the attackers, urging anyone with information to assist in the investigation.
This grenade attack marks the first such incident in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area in four years, with authorities condemning the act and vowing it would not disrupt peace and security efforts in the region.
