Man who sent over 100 fake bomb threats to flights, PMO wanted to publish a book on ‘terrorism’

Jagdish Uikey, a 35-year-old resident from Gondia, Maharashtra, has been detained for sending around 100 emails to high-ranking government officials, including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), as well as issuing hoax threats targeting flights, trains, and other locations across India. Uikey’s emails were initially aimed at securing support for his book, “Atankwad-Ek Tufaani Rakshash” (Terrorism: A Demonic Storm), which he claims is a study on terrorism, though police have described it as largely derived from online sources. His emails took a more alarming turn as he started issuing fake warnings, supposedly out of frustration after not receiving any response.

Nagpur’s police commissioner, Ravinder Singal, noted that Uikey had been questioned twice before—once for sending inappropriate emails and once for alleging that job seekers had connections to the PMO. His recent messages reportedly warned of “sleeper cell activities” in India, aligning with warnings from US sources. Investigators are now examining Uikey’s devices, including his phone and laptop, and analyzing his call records, financial activity, and email patterns. So far, 354 emails have been flagged in his “sent” folder, showing a distinct escalation in content.

Delhi Police’s special cell has joined the probe, and Uikey remains in custody, with a psychological evaluation pending to help authorities understand his motivations and mental state.
