In a unique cross-border gesture, former Pakistan minister Abdul Rehman Kanju attended a felicitation ceremony in Chautala village, Haryana, organized by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) to celebrate the recent electoral success of its leaders, Arjun Chautala and Aditya Devi Lal Chautala, in the Haryana Assembly elections. The event, which coincided with Diwali celebrations, was marked by the presence of INLD president Om Prakash Chautala and Abhay Chautala, as well as Kanju, who came as a chief guest.
Abhay Chautala shared his gratitude on social media, thanking villagers for honoring both his family and Kanju. In his address, Kanju praised the Chautalas, calling Abhay “Haryana’s Sher” and emphasizing the enduring friendship across borders. He noted his admiration for Abhay’s strong advocacy in the Haryana Assembly, recalling moments he had witnessed online. Kanju also extended Diwali wishes, hoping for happiness and unity between India and Pakistan.
The gathering symbolized both INLD’s recent political gains and the Chautala family’s longstanding legacy in the region. After a difficult showing in the 2019 elections, INLD made a comeback in 2024, with Arjun Chautala winning the Rania seat and Aditya Devi Lal Chautala securing Dabwali, both by significant margins of 50,000 votes.
