As Diwali 2024 unfolds, Delhi’s air quality continues to be a pressing issue, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching “very poor” levels early Thursday morning. The AQI in Anand Vihar hit “severe” levels, while across the city, the average AQI hovered around 330 by 9 a.m., posing significant health risks as evening celebrations, often accompanied by firecrackers, are expected to further degrade the air.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his Diwali wishes, expressing hopes for a prosperous and healthy life for all, invoking blessings from Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. President Droupadi Murmu also sent Diwali greetings, describing the festival as a symbol of joy, wisdom, and the triumph of good over evil. She encouraged everyone to embrace love, compassion, and social harmony during the celebrations.
With the current air quality levels, authorities and health experts have urged residents to take precautions, as pollution typically spikes during Diwali festivities due to increased particulate matter from fireworks.
