Apple has officially begun rolling out its new M4 chipset to its Mac lineup, starting with the iMac, followed by the Mac Mini, and now the new MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16. The updated MacBook Pro 14 offers options with both the M4 and M4 Pro chipsets, and now the base model comes standard with 16GB of RAM. In India, the MacBook Pro 14 starts at Rs 169,900, while the MacBook Pro 16 with the M4 Pro chipset starts at Rs 249,900. Apple is also offering educational discounts of Rs 10,000 or more on all new models.
Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro are now open, with delivery and in-store availability, including Apple’s Delhi and Mumbai stores, beginning on November 8.
John Ternus, Apple’s SVP of Hardware Engineering, highlighted the enhanced power and professional-grade features in the new models, including Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, and an option for a nano-texture display — previously available only on Apple’s external monitors. While the design remains consistent with previous models, the base M4 laptops now come with a minimum of 16GB RAM, with M4 Pro and M4 Max variants starting at 24GB RAM.
The new Thunderbolt 5 support on USB-C ports brings transfer speeds up to 120GB/s, a significant improvement aimed at professional users with high data transfer needs. The introduction of Apple Intelligence, an AI suite powered by generative AI tools and Apple’s proprietary LLM, is another key highlight. Part of macOS Sequoia 15.1, Apple Intelligence integrates privacy-focused generative AI applications, though full functionality may vary by region.
In a related upgrade, the MacBook Air’s base model will now start with 16GB RAM, though its price remains at Rs 99,900.
