‘Jagan’s rise to power owes much to Sharmila’s efforts’: mother Vijayamma breaks silence on siblings’ clash

The property dispute between YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister, Congress leader YS Sharmila, has taken an emotional turn with their mother, YS Vijayamma, publicly addressing the matter. In an open letter, Vijayamma acknowledged Sharmila’s contributions to Jagan’s political rise, emphasizing that her daughter’s efforts were instrumental to his success.

Vijayamma’s intervention follows Jagan’s recent petition to the National Company Law Tribunal, alleging that Sharmila had unlawfully transferred shares of Saraswati Power and Industries, a family-owned company, to herself and their mother. Vijayamma refuted these allegations, stating that Sharmila was never involved in the family business but had supported her brother’s political journey out of loyalty. She expressed her dismay at what she perceives as an unjust treatment of Sharmila, remarking that “all children are equal” and adding that, as a mother, she felt a responsibility to stand by her daughter.

Addressing the issue of family property, Vijayamma dismissed claims that her late husband, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, had divided his assets between Jagan and Sharmila. She expressed hope that the family would eventually reconcile, saying, “blood is thicker than water,” and suggesting that faith and time would heal their divisions.
