By-elections in Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav confident of historic win for SP

Ahead of the November 13 by-elections for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence in his party’s victory, especially highlighting Tej Pratap Yadav’s prospects in the Karhal constituency. Akhilesh predicted a “historic result” for the SP, emphasizing the strong support in Karhal and projecting a significant defeat for the BJP. He criticized the ruling BJP for failing to deliver on promises, claiming they only create electoral “hype.”

The by-elections will involve nine out of ten vacant seats in Uttar Pradesh, with Milkipur in Ayodhya district not participating this round. The seats up for election include Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karhal, Phulpur, and Katehari.

Akhilesh Yadav shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the INDIA alliance’s candidates would contest under the SP’s symbol, the cycle, reflecting a united front with Congress. Congress officials, including state in-charge Avinash Pandey, confirmed their support for SP, opting not to field their own candidates. Pandey emphasized that the Congress-Samajwadi Party collaboration aims to strengthen their position against the BJP, underscoring a shared commitment to protecting constitutional values.

The vote counting for the by-election is scheduled for November 23.
