Following the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti, President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), announced the immediate dissolution of the party’s entire structure. New office bearers and bodies are expected to be appointed soon after consultation with senior party leaders. This decision comes after the October 8 elections, where Mufti praised the National Conference-Congress alliance for securing a clear mandate, which she viewed as a safeguard against any attempts to undermine the people’s choice.
In her remarks from the PDP headquarters in Srinagar, Mufti highlighted the importance of the electoral outcome, especially given the challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. She congratulated the National Conference and Congress for their decisive win, acknowledging that a stable government was essential to address the region’s pressing issues.
The election results saw the National Conference leading with 42 seats, followed by the BJP with 29, the Congress with 6, and the PDP with 3.
