In the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election, competition is heating up in the Worli constituency as three prominent candidates vie for the seat. Aaditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT) has filed his nomination to retain his position in Worli, where he held a roadshow and expressed optimism about re-election, citing support from his constituents. The Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has nominated Milind Deora, a seasoned Rajya Sabha member and three-time MP from South Mumbai, as a strong contender. Adding to the contest, Sandeep Deshpande of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray has also joined the race for Worli.
The electoral landscape in Maharashtra is marked by major alliances. The ruling coalition, the Mahayuti alliance, includes the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. The opposition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), unites the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, and the Congress. Voters in Maharashtra will decide the fate of candidates across 288 Assembly seats on November 20, with counting scheduled for November 23.
Reflecting on the last Assembly election results, in 2019, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, and the Congress 44. The BJP held a stronger position in 2014, securing 122 seats, while the Shiv Sena had 63 and Congress 42.
