UP Bypolls: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav announced on Wednesday that candidates from the INDIA bloc will contest all nine seats in the upcoming bypolls on the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol, the ‘cycle.’ Yadav emphasized that the decision was driven by the bloc’s aim to secure victory rather than seat-sharing agreements.
“The Congress and Samajwadi Party are united, standing shoulder to shoulder for a resounding victory,” Yadav posted on X. He further added, “The INDIA bloc is set to write a new chapter of success in this by-election. With unprecedented cooperation and support, every worker of the bloc is energized and determined to win on all nine assembly seats.”
Speaking about the significance of the bypolls, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister stated that the election would be fought to safeguard the Constitution, preserve peace, and uphold the honor of Pichchde (backwards), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (minorities).
The bypolls are scheduled for November 13 across nine constituencies:
- Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar)
- Karhal (Mainpuri)
- Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar)
- Ghaziabad
- Majhawan (Mirzapur)
- Sishamau (Kanpur city)
- Khair (Aligarh)
- Phulpur (Prayagraj)
- Kundarki (Moradabad)
Out of these, eight seats were vacated when the elected MLAs became MPs in the Lok Sabha, while the by-election in Sisamau was necessitated by the disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki, who was convicted in a criminal case.
The Election Commission has announced by-elections for these nine seats, excluding Milkipur (Ayodhya). The last date for filing nominations is October 25, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.
The Samajwadi Party has already declared its candidates for Karhal, Sisamau, Phulpur, Milkipur, Katehari, Majahawan, and Meerapur.
