‘There are issues with 6-7 seats in Vidarbha …’: Congress leader and Maharashtra LoP Vijay Wadettiwar

Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra elections, Congress leader and Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar announced on Monday that the seat-sharing arrangement for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition will be finalized by either this evening or tomorrow. The MVA, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP, has been working on distributing the 288 assembly seats among the three parties.

Wadettiwar acknowledged some challenges, particularly with 6-7 seats in Vidarbha, but expressed confidence that these issues would be resolved soon. He emphasized that despite the complexity of dividing the seats, a final decision on all 288 constituencies will be made by tomorrow evening.

On the BJP’s side, the party released its first list of candidates for Vidarbha, heavily favoring its sitting MLAs. Out of 23 candidates, 19 are current MLAs, underscoring the BJP’s strategy of sticking with familiar faces. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who was overlooked in 2019, is set to make a comeback, highlighting his loyalty to the party.

Vidarbha, a region with significant political importance, is expected to play a crucial role in the formation of the next government, whether it be the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) or the MVA that secures a victory in the elections.
