‘Kashmir Pakistan nahi banega’: Farooq Abdullah’s warning after Ganderbal terror attack

In response to the recent terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Gagangir, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah strongly condemned the violence, asserting that despite Pakistan’s attempts to spread terror, Kashmir will not yield to such tactics. Speaking firmly, Abdullah emphasized, “Kashmir Pakistan nahi banega” (Kashmir will not become Pakistan).

Abdullah, whose government was recently sworn in, warned Pakistan’s leadership to stop supporting terrorism if they wish to maintain peaceful relations with India. He questioned the possibility of talks while innocent people were being killed, saying, “How can there be talks? You kill our innocent people and then call for talks. First, stop the killings.”

His comments came after the terror attack on Sunday at a construction site in Ganderbal district, where a doctor and five laborers were killed. This incident marks the fifth targeted attack on non-native workers in Kashmir this year. Abdullah also referred to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to Pakistan for the SCO summit, expressing earlier hope for improved relations, but his tone shifted following the latest attack, stating that Pakistan needs to end terrorism or face severe consequences.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha echoed similar concerns, stating that Pakistan is still trying to kill innocent people and disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need to remain vigilant, especially regarding drug smuggling and counter-insurgency operations.

In response to the attack, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), led by a senior officer, traveled to Jammu and Kashmir to investigate the Gagangir incident.
