Dating app scam: Kingpin tells Mumbai Police, ‘Made Rs 20 Lakh/day for clubs’

Ankur Meena, also known as “Meena Defaulter” and the alleged mastermind behind a massive dating app scam in India, has disclosed startling details during his police interrogation. Arrested by the Bangur Nagar police, Meena revealed that he was able to generate as much as Rs 20 lakh in business for clubs in just one day. According to his confession, club members were fully aware of the fraudulent nature of the operations but turned a blind eye in pursuit of higher profits.

Meena described how he personally trained girls working for the dating app. Every 10 to 15 days, a new group of girls, many from Delhi and other states, would be brought to Mumbai to familiarize themselves with the scam’s operations. He coached them on how to interact with customers in ways that would please them and encourage heavy spending. While newer recruits adhered closely to his instructions, more experienced girls often acted independently to maximize their commissions by engaging more customers.

In addition to overseeing the girls, Meena also played a pivotal role in identifying suitable clubs, negotiating deals with owners, and developing business strategies. However, he claimed that some of his team members, driven by greed, ran their own scams by generating fake bills to inflate commissions, without his knowledge. Despite his assertion that he paid his team members equally, some continued to scam customers by partnering with club owners.

After the dating app racket was exposed in Mumbai, Meena shut down operations and instructed his team to leave the city. However, some members stayed behind and continued the scams. Recently, six individuals connected to the racket were arrested by Bangur Nagar police.

Meena, who was initially in police custody until October 16, was later transferred to Amboli police in connection with another case related to the Godfather Club. He was produced before the Bandra holiday court and has been remanded to an additional three days of police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may emerge as authorities continue their probe into the dating app scam.
