Vikash Yadav, a former Indian government official, was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in December 2023 for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping and extortion case. He was later granted interim bail in March 2024 and regular bail the following month. Yadav, accused of kidnapping a businessman from Delhi’s Rohini area and extorting money under the pretense of being associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was charged with multiple offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including kidnapping for ransom, attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and robbery.
The bail was granted on compassionate grounds, as Yadav’s one-year-old daughter was suffering from a serious respiratory infection. The court, while considering his bail application, verified the medical documents and noted that Yadav had no prior criminal record. Additionally, the court highlighted that the investigation was complete, the chargesheet had been filed, and there was no imminent threat to any witnesses.
Yadav’s interim bail, initially granted for six days in March, required him to adhere to specific conditions, such as not tampering with evidence and remaining within Delhi’s jurisdiction. He was required to surrender after the interim period, but on April 22, he was granted regular bail by the court.
