Apple is preparing to make a significant entry into the smart home market, aiming to compete with established players like Amazon and Google. According to reports, Apple’s strategy will involve three major components: AI integration, new smart displays, and a dedicated operating system for home automation.
The first phase introduces Apple Intelligence, a system designed to enhance home automation by providing seamless control over apps, devices, and media. This AI-driven platform will allow for a personalized and smooth smart home experience, with automation adapting to users’ preferences and habits.
In the second phase, Apple is focusing on smart displays. These displays, similar in affordability to iPads, will support FaceTime, Apple TV Plus, and web browsing. Apple is also developing a more advanced device—a robotic assistant with a rotating arm and smart display. This AI-powered robot will analyze its environment, with potential applications in home security and automation.
The third key element is homeOS, a new operating system based on tvOS. This OS will integrate all Apple devices within a smart home and will also be compatible with non-Apple devices, thanks to the Matter standard, which facilitates interoperability across various smart home products from different manufacturers.
Although Apple has previously launched devices like the HomePod and Apple TV, they haven’t yet dominated the smart home market. However, with a focus on both hardware and software, Apple’s upcoming offerings—affordable smart displays, an advanced robotic assistant, and homeOS—could position the company as a strong competitor, especially as rivals like Google and Amazon face challenges.
