The United States has expressed satisfaction with the cooperation received from India’s inquiry committee during discussions about the alleged foiled assassination plot targeting Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated Khalistani terrorist. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller described the meeting as “productive” and noted that the individual named in the US Justice Department’s indictment, Nikhil Gupta, is no longer employed by the Indian government.
Miller confirmed that both sides exchanged updates on their respective investigations, emphasizing that cooperation between the US and India on this issue remains ongoing. When asked about potential future meetings with the Indian inquiry committee, Miller did not provide any further details.
Nikhil Gupta, 53, was extradited from the Czech Republic to the US in June 2023 and has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to charges related to the assassination plot. The target, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, holds both American and Canadian citizenship and is classified as a terrorist by India.
India responded to the US concerns by forming a high-level inquiry committee last year, stressing the importance of addressing such issues due to their implications for national security.
