Congress unlikely to be part of Omar Abdullah-led cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir

The Congress party is unlikely to join the Omar Abdullah-led cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir but will extend external support to his government, according to sources. This development comes ahead of Omar Abdullah’s swearing-in as the first chief minister of the newly formed union territory.

The oath-taking ceremony, scheduled for 11:30 am at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, will see Omar Abdullah, who previously served as chief minister from 2009 to 2014 under a National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition, taking the oath administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Omar Abdullah staked his claim to form the government on October 11, presenting letters of support from 42 National Conference MLAs, four independents, six Congress legislators, and one CPI(M) representative, securing a majority.
