The imposition of religion on young children; We welcome the proposal of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to close down madrasas; Dr. Rajiv Menon, National Secretary General of the Republican Party

Dr Rajiv Menon, national secretary-general of the Republican Party, welcomed the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights’s (NCPCR) order to abolish madrassa boards in the country and close down madrasas that violate the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The commission has released a report pointing out that there are violations of the Constitution in madrasas. Dr Rajeev Menon said that religion is being imposed on young children at a young age and hatred is being promoted through madrassa studies.

According to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights( NCPCR), madrasas have failed to bring Muslim students into the mainstream. Madrasas are working against the Protection of Education Act. Dr Rajiv Menon pointed out that madrasas are hampering the general education of children. According to the report, 1.2 crore Muslim children are not attending schools. Madrassa teachers are running madrasas based on traditional methods of religious texts. He also said that the education system in madrasas violates the constitutional rights of children.
