On Monday, multiple bomb threats led to significant disruptions in both air and rail travel across India, prompting emergency responses and heightened security measures. These incidents affected a New York-bound Air India flight, IndiGo flights headed to Jeddah and Muscat, and the Mumbai-Howrah Mail train.
Air India flight diverted to Delhi
An Air India flight (AI119) en route from Mumbai to New York, carrying 239 passengers, was diverted to Delhi after a bomb threat was reported. The plane made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where all passengers were safely evacuated. Officials are investigating the threat, reportedly received through a tweet, and the aircraft is being thoroughly searched to ensure safety. Air India confirmed the diversion, stating that a “specific security alert” was issued by the government’s security regulatory committee.
IndiGo flights receive bomb threats
In two separate incidents, bomb threats were reported on IndiGo flights from Mumbai to Jeddah (6E 56) and from Mumbai to Muscat (6E 1275). Both aircraft were moved to isolated bays for security inspections. The Jeddah-bound flight remains grounded, while the Muscat-bound flight, originally scheduled for 2 am, was delayed and departed at 9 am, expected to arrive at its destination by 9:45 am local time. IndiGo confirmed that all procedures are being followed to ensure passenger safety.
Bomb scare on Mumbai-Howrah Mail train
A bomb threat was also reported on the Mumbai-Howrah Mail (train number 12809), warning of a timer bomb onboard. The train was stopped at Jalgaon station around 4:00 am, where security teams conducted a thorough search. No suspicious objects were found, and the train continued its journey. Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer assured that authorities managed the situation to prevent any potential harm.
These incidents sparked a swift response from security agencies, with investigations ongoing to assess the validity of the threats and ensure the safety of passengers.
