In light of Congress’s unexpected loss in the recent Haryana elections, partners from the INDIA bloc have offered strategic advice as the party prepares for upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi. Leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Communist Party of India (CPI), and Shiv Sena (UBT) emphasized the importance of avoiding overconfidence and called into question Congress’s election approach.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party in Haryana, winning 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress secured only 37 seats, falling short of a majority. Independent candidates captured 3 seats, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed to secure 2 seats.
Despite the electoral outcome, Congress has rejected the results, claiming they do not reflect the ground reality. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed his disappointment, stating that the results were “totally unexpected and surprising” and contradicted the people’s desire for change. He further claimed, “Victory has been snatched from us in Haryana… the results are against the sentiment of the people which was for change. The Congress has been made to lose in Haryana and the chapter is not closed.”
As the party contemplates its future strategy, the feedback from its allies will likely play a crucial role in shaping its approach for the forthcoming elections.
