Kangana Ranaut In Legal Trouble: Mandi MP Gets Court Notice Over ‘India Got Freedom In 2014’ Remark

New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has landed in a legal soup for her controversial statement on “independence”. The Jabalpur District Court has issued a notice against the Mandi MP for her remark where she said, “the freedom we got in ‘1947’ was the freedom we got through begging.” The BJP MP had claimed that “India got its freedom in 2014”.

Hurt by Kangana’s statement, Advocate Amit Sahu had filed a complaint. The next hearing of the case will be held again on November 5.

In 2021, Sahu filed a petition after his complaint to the Adhartal police station went unaddressed. He informed the court that he initially lodged a complaint at the police station and subsequently wrote a letter to the district SP. When no action was taken, he decided to take the matter to court.

Sahu expressed his distress over a statement made by the actress, urging the court to register a case against Ranaut under the relevant provisions of the IPC for her remarks.

For the unversed, the BJP MP had said that the “real independence happened in 2014”, a remark that sparked off controversy and a political slugfest.
