Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that India and the Maldives will collaborate on several future projects following a bilateral meeting with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu. President Muizzu, who arrived in India on Sunday for a five-day official visit, was welcomed with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was received by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi.
Muizzu’s visit highlights the close maritime ties between the two nations, particularly in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), where the Maldives is a key neighbor. The collaboration aligns with India’s “SAGAR” vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and its “Neighbourhood First Policy.”
During his visit, Muizzu will also attend business events in Mumbai and Bengaluru, aiming to enhance economic and people-to-people ties. His visit follows the recent trip of India’s External Affairs Minister to the Maldives, further strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
