Jammu and Kashmir Exit Poll Results 2024: Congress-NC Alliance Ahead Of BJP But Short Of Majority Mark; All Eyes On PDP

The Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance is ahead in Jammu and Kashmir but no party has been shown to cross the majority mark, as exit polls by several surveyors including Axis My India, C Voter, Matrize, and PMARQ. Jammu and Kashmir is all set to get a new government after the assembly elections held over three phases – September 18, September 25 and October 1 – after a gap of 10 years. Dainik Bhaskar poll claimed that NC-Congress will win up to 35-40 seats in the 90-member Assembly, while the BJP is expected to settle for 20-25 seats

Even in the last Assembly elections, held in 2014, no party had secured the majority. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12. However, the BJP extended its support to the PDP to form a coalition government.

Dainik Bhaskar Poll

National Conference-Congress: 35-40 seats

BJP: 20-25 seats

Independent Candidates: 12-16 seats

PDP: 4-7 seats

Gulistan Exit Poll

National Conference-Congress: 31-36 seats

BJP: 28-30 seats

It also indicates a ‘kingmaker’ role for independent candidates who may end up with 19-23 seats and the PDP left with 5-7.

C-Voter Poll

National Conference-Congress: 30-48 seats

BJP: 27-32 seats

The PDP may end up with 6-12 seats, on par with independents who could get 6-11 seats.

People’s Pulse Poll

National Conference-Congress: 46-50 seats

BJP: 23-27 seats

The PDP may get 7-11 seats and independents 6-10.

Meanwhile, ormer CM Omar Abdullah dismissed the exit polls for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and said he will wait for October 8, when the results will be revealed. “I’m amazed channels are bothering with exit polls, especially after the fiasco of the recent general elections. I’m ignoring all the noise on channels, social media, WhatsApp Etc because the only numbers that matter will be revealed on the 8th of Oct. The rest is just time pass,” he wrote in a post on social media site X.

These are the first elections held in the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 sections. High-profile leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, and former J&K chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti, held extensive campaigning for weeks.
