Ashok Tanwar, a prominent Dalit politician and former MP, returned to Congress on Thursday, just hours after campaigning for the BJP at a rally in Jind. Known for his frequent party switches, Tanwar rejoined Congress at a rally in Mahendragarh, standing alongside Rahul Gandhi and senior party leaders. His return marks the end of nearly five years of separation from Congress, during which he launched his own political party, joined the Trinamool Congress, and later aligned with AAP.
Earlier this year, Tanwar had joined the BJP and was considered a key campaigner for the party in the ongoing Haryana Assembly elections. His switch back to Congress, especially in the presence of his longtime rival and ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, highlights a significant development ahead of the state polls. Tanwar’s reconnection with Congress is also personally significant, as he is married to Avantika Maken, the niece of senior Congress leader Ajay Maken.
