India vs Bangladesh Test Series: Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar slammed English media for their constant criticism of Indian pitches ahead of any Test series.
While doing commentary on the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh, Gavaskar mentioned the example of Ravichandran Ashwin and labelled a section of the English media ‘moaners’ and ‘crybabies’.
Gavaskar recalled Ashwin’s fighting century in the first match to bash the English media, saying that they had declared the Chepauk pitch unplayable, Ashwin showed that he could play quite well on the surface.
“He (Ashwin) actually said in the press conference that you can get a hundred if you apply yourself. So he walked the talk when the moaners were going on saying ‘you can’t bat here’. Saying and doing all the things like crybabies, typical English media stuff, where they only talk about Indian pitches,” he said.
India were in a tricky situation in the series opener when Ashwin bailed the team out of trouble with a memorable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.
The veteran spinner not only smashed his sixth Test hundred but also picked up his 37th five-wicket haul.
India went on to clinch a 280-run win in the first Test to go 1-0 up in the two-match series.
Talking about the second Test, India won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Bangladesh were 107/3 in 35 overs when the play was suspended on the first day due to rain and poor weather conditions.
Mominul Haque (40 batting) and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim (6) were at the crease when the heavens opened up.
Akash Deep picked up the two wickets for India, removing both the openers whereas Ashwin found a scalp as well.
