EXPLAINED: How Can India Qualify For WTC 2025 Final If 2nd Test Vs Bangladesh Is Washed Out

India are currently taking on Bangladesh in the final Test of the two-match series at the Green Park International Stadium in Kanpur. The match is crucial for Team India as a win would ensure that they register a whitewash series win against the visitors. This would also be a significant step in India qualifying for the final of the World Test Championship 2025. However, rain has been a spoilsport pretty much throughout the first two days of the game

There was just 35 overs of action on Day 1, as play was called off due to the rain and bad light. On day 2, the play was completely called off without a ball being bowled due to rain. There is a chance that there would be no action on Day 2 at all. In fact, if the weather remains the same till Day 5, then the match could be called off.

What Happens If India vs Bangladesh Second Test Is Washed Out?

If the second Test vs Bangladesh is indeed washed out, then the match will be declared as a draw. This would mean that India would win the series by margin of 1-0, and they will fail to clinch a whitewash series win.

How Can India Qualify For WTC 2025 Final If India Vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

If the match is washed out, then it will be registered as a draw in the WTC table. This would mean that Rohit Sharma’s men would still be on top of the WTC 2023-25 table. After that India would need to win at least 4 out of their next 8 matches that they will play till the end of the cycle, in order to have a PCT of 60 and ensure a place in the final of the WTC 2025 at Lord’s in June.

After the Bangladesh series, India face New Zealand in a three-match series in October at home. This will be followed by the tough tour to Australia where they face the Pat Cummins-led side in a 5-match Test Series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
