Kanpur: A Bangladeshi cricket ‘super fan’ was allegedly beaten during the second test match of India Vs Bangladesh in Kanpur at Greek Park Stadium on Friday. Super fan Roby, dressed in a tiger costume was taken to hospital after the alleged incident. He was sitting in stand C when the incident occurred, however, the reason behind the alleged violence remains unclear.
“Roby could not communicate the exact turn of events, but it looked completely distressed,” said an Uttar Pradesh Association official. According to the media report, he told the media that he had been punched in his abdomen during an argument with the accused individuals. The official stated, “He was wincing in pain and seemed to be fainting when he came out of the stand. He was given a chair to sit but he fell.”
Roby was given first aid and an ambulance was called for him at the stadium, stated a police officer. The officer stated that it was not clear if he was hit by somebody.
“We had a constable in that stand to keep an eye on the fans. We could not understand what he was saying, as he looked in pain.” The officer added, “The ambulance was taking some time to arrive so the in-stadia medical team has taken him to a nearby facility.”
Further details are awaited.
