NEW DELHI: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) scrutinising the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, has been deluged with 1.25 crore letters, alarming panel members as many of them consider the “motivated” campaign to be a tactic by some outfits to delay introduction of the bill in the winter session of Parliament.
Panel member and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey urged committee head Jagdambika Pal to ask MHA to conduct a probe into the possible role of “external forces”, including fundamentalist groups, individuals like Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, or foreign agencies trying to manipulate the parliamentary process. Congress said the letter showed BJP “does not believe in democracy”.
