In a significant leadership change, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday appointed Uday Bhanu Chib as the new chief of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC). Chib, who has been serving as the General Secretary of IYC, previously held the position of President of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress.
The announcement was made by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal in a statement:
“Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Uday Bhanu Chib, currently General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and former President of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress, as the President of the Indian Youth Congress, with immediate effect.”
Venugopal also expressed appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing IYC President, Srinivas BV.
Chib’s appointment comes at a crucial time, as Jammu and Kashmir gears up for its assembly elections. His previous leadership in the region’s Youth Congress, and his role in the Congress’s manifesto committee for the elections, highlight his involvement in shaping the party’s strategy in J&K.
Chib recently shared a photo with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, expressing his admiration:
“A Memorable meet with My LEADER @RahulGandhi ji! Your struggle and perseverance for social justice is an inspiration to all of us.”
Earlier this month, Chib also participated in a road show supporting Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, the National Congress candidate for the Jammu North assembly seat. Congress and the National Congress (NC) are contesting the elections together, aiming to strengthen their presence in the politically critical region of Jammu and Kashmir.
