Atishi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday at the Raj Bhavan, marking a significant moment as she became the youngest leader to hold the top position in the capital. She succeeded Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned from the post after receiving bail from the Supreme Court in connection with the liquor policy scam case. Atishi is the third woman to serve as Delhi’s Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
Atishi is a first-time legislator representing the Kalkaji constituency and had previously managed several key portfolios, including finance, PWD, and education, under the Kejriwal-led government. Her appointment came after a proposal from Kejriwal, and she is seen as a prominent figure within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), especially during Kejriwal’s time in jail.
Alongside Atishi, five other AAP MLAs were sworn in as ministers. These include Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat.
A Look at Atishi’s Cabinet:
- Gopal Rai – Representing Babapur, Rai held key portfolios like Environment, Forest, and Wildlife, and also leads AAP’s Delhi unit.
- Kailash Gahlot – Known for his work in the Transport Ministry, he previously held portfolios such as IT, Transport, and Women and Child Development.
- Saurabh Bharadwaj – The Greater Kailash MLA serves as Minister for Health, Urban Development, Tourism, and Industry.
- Imran Hussain – Representing Ballimaran, Hussain handled the Food and Civil Supplies ministry and is considered AAP’s prominent Muslim leader.
- Mukesh Ahlawat – A first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, Ahlawat fills the vacancy left by the resignation of former minister Raaj Kumar Anand.
Atishi’s leadership marks a new chapter for AAP as the party gears up for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, with her cabinet set to lead the charge.
