‘I Had Told Him…’: Anna Hazare Recalls His Advice To Arvind Kejriwal After Resignation Announcement

Social activist Anna Hazare expressed his disappointment after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision to resign as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Hazare, a central figure in the Lokpal movement where Kejriwal rose to prominence, said he had previously advised Kejriwal to avoid politics and focus on social work. According to Hazare, Kejriwal’s entry into politics went against his advice, and he suggested that Kejriwal’s recent controversies were a result of his political choices.

Kejriwal’s resignation announcement came in the wake of his recent release from Tihar jail, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged liquor policy case. In his statement, Kejriwal expressed a desire to return to the Chief Minister’s office only after securing the support of Delhi’s voters in upcoming elections. He also called for early elections in November 2024, instead of the scheduled date in February 2025, asking the public to decide whether they consider him “innocent or guilty.”

Hazare’s comments reflect his long-standing disapproval of Kejriwal’s shift from activism to politics, reiterating that he had warned against it years ago.
