Encounter breaks out in J&K’s Poonch, top terror group commander trapped

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Sunday morning. Among the three terrorists trapped in the village, a top commander from a terror group is reportedly involved. The gunfight began when security forces, acting on a tip-off, launched a cordon and search operation in the Pathanateer area near Gursai top in Mendhar sub-division on Saturday evening.

As the search party moved in, they were fired upon by the hiding terrorists, triggering the ongoing gunfight. Reinforcements have been dispatched to the area, and the exchange of fire remains intermittent.

This clash follows a similar operation in Baramulla district just a day earlier, where three terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter. Security forces had launched the Baramulla operation after receiving information about terrorist activity in Tapper village, located near the National Highway.
