On Friday, the Supreme Court made pointed remarks regarding the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the excise policy case. The court emphasized that the agency must prove its independence and avoid being perceived as a “caged parrot.”
While granting bail to Kejriwal, who had been in custody since March 11, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan underscored the importance of the CBI dispelling this long-standing criticism.
“The CBI must show that it is an uncaged parrot,” Justice Bhuyan stated.
The term “caged parrot” is often used by opposition parties to criticize what they describe as undue government influence over the CBI’s operations.
