‘Look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions’: Rahul Gandhi receives warm welcome in US

Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that he was looking forward to engaging in meaningful discussions aimed at bolstering ties between India and the United States as he arrived in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday for his three-day visit.

The Congress MP received a warm welcome at the Dallas airport by members of the Indian diaspora and the Indian Overseas Congress.

Rahul took to Facebook to express his appreciation for the reception, saying, “I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I’ve received in Dallas, Texas, USA, from the Indian Diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress.”

He further added, “I eagerly look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions and insightful conversations that will further strengthen the bond between our two nations during this visit.”

Upon his arrival, Rahul was greeted by Indian Overseas Congress chairman Sam Pitroda and members of the Indian community, who presented him with bouquets and performed aarti.

During his visit, which spans from September 8 to 10, Rahul will engage in a series of events and meetings. In Dallas, he will interact with students and academicians at the University of Texas, attend a large community gathering, and meet with local technocrats and leaders.

On September 9 and 10, Rahul will travel to Washington, DC, where he is scheduled to engage with think tanks, the national press club, and other notable groups.

Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda said last week that the Opposition leader is not visiting the US in his official capacity but will have a chance to interact with a variety of people at an “individual level”.

“He (Gandhi) will have interactions with the press at the national press club, he will meet with the think tank people and will also have interaction at Georgetown University which is equally important in Washington DC,” Pitroda said of Gandhi’s first visit to the US since assuming the mantle of the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha.

This visit follows Rahul’s recent resignation from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala after winning elections in both Rae Bareli and Wayanad. His sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, is expected to contest the upcoming bypoll in Wayanad.
