‘Her Olympic Failure Was God’s Punishment’: Brij Bhushan Singh’s Dig After Congress Fields Vinesh Phogat From Julana Seat

Brij Bhushan Singh Vinesh Phogat Remark:  Former Wrestling Federation of India chief and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Friday lashed out at Olympian-wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who joined the Congress party yesterday, saying that one-day Kharge-led party will regret the decision. Slamming the wrestlers’ protest, he termed it a script by senior Haryana Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda.

Singh further took a jibe at Phogat’s Olympic medal slip, terming it as god’s punishment for all the cheating she had done. He accused Phogat of giving trials in 2 weight categories in a single day. He also accused Phogat of stopping trials for 5 hours after the weigh-in.

“Haryana is the crown of India in the field of sports. And they stopped the wrestling activities for almost 2.5 years. Is it not true that Bajrang went to the Asian Games without trials? I want to ask those who are experts in wrestling. I want to ask Vinesh Phogat whether a player can give trials in 2 weight categories in a day. Can the trials be stopped for 5 hours after the weigh-in?… You did not win the wrestling, you went there by cheating. God has punished you for the same, ” said the BJP leader.

Will Campaign Against Phogat If Party Asks

Brij Bhushan further said that although there is no dearth of leaders in the BJP, he will campaign for the party against Phogat and Bajrang if the party asks him. He said that he is not guilty of disrespecting the women, but it is Bajrang and Vinesh.

“I am not guilty of disrespecting daughters. If anyone is guilty of disrespecting daughters, it is Bajrang and Vinesh. And the one who wrote the script, Bhupinder Hooda is responsible for that. If they (BJP) will ask me (to campaign in the Haryana polls), I can go. One day Congress will have to regret it…,” he said.
