Dr Rajeev Menon, general secretary of the National Association of the Republican Party, has demanded the dissolution of AMMA in the wake of allegations against actors in the Malayalam film industry. Amma has become an insult to the entire society after the frauds and double standards in the film world have been exposed. The real culprit cannot be brought to justice just because the Kerala Police is investigating. He also demanded a thorough probe by the central agency into the Hema Committee report. In the Hema Committee report, many top officials of the AMMA organisation have been named as accused. The government says it is with the victim, but it stands with the hunters. Kerala has witnessed that in the last few days. Amma’s organisation is also swaying over the Hema Commission, which has severely affected the film industry. Dr Rajeev Menon said that when allegations of sexual harassment are being levelled against the actors one after the other, those at the helm of the organisation have remained silent. The accused are celebrities who have status and value in the society. Malayalees are shocked to hear allegations of sexual harassment against celebrities who are looked upon with admiration. Dr Rajeev Menon said that an organisation like AMMA is an insult to Kerala and the organisation should be dissolved. He added that the central agency should intervene and investigate the matter after understanding the seriousness of the incident.
Neither the government nor the AMMA has taken legal action so far, even though many people have openly told the media that there is widespread exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. The star kings who have ruled Malayalam cinema for years are also not ready for a response. There are people who protect the transgressors and raise their voice for them. Many people who are passionate about acting continue to be in the film industry by forgiving and enduring the atrocities against them. Women have been exploited in this way by those who are supposed to be committed to the society. According to reports, women have to compromise for the sake of opportunity. Women who come to fulfill the dream of making a film for years are being physically exploited in this way. Many people go hunting with the courage that they will never come out. Newcomers now have to think more than twice to come into the world of cinema. According to reports, directors and producers are being forced to do the wrong things. Dr Rajeev Menon said that when those who are not willing to cooperate are denied an opportunity, a thorough investigation should be conducted into who is ruling the Malayalam film industry.
The witnesses are ready to give statements out of fear. Who is the film industry afraid of? The names of many of the accused in the Hema Commission report are yet to come out. It also needs to be investigated as to whose influence the government is behind the non-release of the Hema Committee report for the last five years. In Malayalam cinema, thampraan is ruled by a group of actors and directors. They are afraid of losing their opportunity if they file a complaint. Women are being denied basic human rights here. Dr Rajeev Menon said that the names of prominent personalities in the Hema Commission report should be made public when the film world was abuzz with anti-women sentiments.
