New Delhi: The Republican Party of India (RPI) led by Atwale today staged a protest at Jantar Mantar over the brutal rape and murder of a PG doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Hospital. Around 500 party workers participated in the protest. RPI national vice-president Nusrat Jahan, Delhi Pradesh president Fakhre Alam and north India president Manju Chhibber were also present.
The party said chief minister Mamata Banerjee was responsible for the rape and murder of a young doctor and demanded her resignation. The state government has completely failed. Nusrat Jahan said Mamata Banerjee should take full responsibility. The West Bengal government is trying to suppress the protests. Nusrat Jahan said the government’s attempt to quell people’s protests and prevent justice from being done is condemnable.
The RPI said the chief minister, who should have used his power to take action against the culprits, was holding protests to divert people’s attention. Students and doctors have been protesting in different parts of the country demanding justice in the murder of a woman doctor. But Mamata Banerjee is trying to divert people’s attention from the issue,” she said. When Mamata was discharging her responsibilities as the chief minister of a state, she should have taken strict action against the culprits. She should resign as she has failed to handle the situation in the state,” Nusrat Jahan said.
