RPI national organisation general secretary Dr Rajeev Menon has urged the central government to take legal action against those who make defamatory remarks on social media. Various kinds of immoral activities and defamatory remarks are taking place through social media accounts from within and outside the country. The course of social media activities is shifting to a situation where you can say anything in the name of a YouTuber. Without knowing the seriousness of an incident and not thinking about whether it is right or wrong, individuals are being thrown in front of the public to strangle them and incite hatred. The number of people who have to commit suicide due to cyber attacks is not small. Dr Rajeev Menon said strong action should be taken against such social media accounts and activities. He said he would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister on this issue which affects the society in a big way.
Restrictions on social media are disappearing. The penetration of social media is such that you can say anything about anyone. YouTube channels are using other people’s images badly to match the reach of their own channel. The pictures and videos are coming out with an ugly caption. It’s not just women who suffer from it, but men too. There is also the possibility of blackmailing individuals and the country itself through cyber attacks. Many people are making defamatory comments through YouTube channels with the intention of defaming them on social media and creating riots in the society by instilling hatred in others. Dr Rajeev Menon added that legal action needs to be strengthened against activities in the name of ‘review’ by insulting and insulting womanhood and casteism.
