Dr Rajeev Menon, general secretary of the RPI’s national organisation, said that though the Hema Committee report was released after five years of waiting, the names of those involved in it should also be made public. The government is not moving a finger despite serious allegations against the top brass of the film industry. The Hema Committee report contains serious revelations. The 233-page report excluded parts of the report. The report highlights allegations of sexual harassment, denial of employment and discrimination in the workplace. Dr Rajeev Menon said that the names of those against whom the allegations of sexual harassment were levelled and no matter how big the stars are, the names should be released and legal action should be taken.
There have been allegations of male and female issues in the film industry. But when no one’s name is mentioned, the film industry in general and all the women who do various kinds of work in it are being portrayed in a bad light. In its report, the Hema Committee has pointed out that there is widespread sexual exploitation in the film industry and directors and producers will be forced to compromise to get an opportunity and do the wrong things. According to the report, there are people in the film industry who have a big criminal background and this is causing a lot of trouble for women. Dr Rajeev Menon said that the names of those who have given statements in the judicial commission and the names mentioned by them should be released and the dignity of other women working in the field in general should be protected.
It is clear that despite several complaints of insulting womanhood, the government did not take any action in favour of those who gave statements on the part of the government. There are many things that everyone has known about the plight of the film industry for years. However, the outside world needs to know the parts of the report against whom the complaint is lodged, who controls the film industry, or the perpetrators of the crime. Dr Rajeev Menon said that the report containing more details should be released and the government should take action no matter how big the actors are.
