India received a massive heartbreak on August 14 when the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for a joint silver medal. While the whole nation expressed their heartbreak at the star wrestler, she herself remained silent. Now in an emotional post, the 29-year-old from Haryana has poured her heart out.
In a long message posted on her X account, Vinesh Phogat expressed her journey in wrestling from her childhood, and how her parents and family supported her in every step of the way despite several heartbreaks and setbacks. She also praised her support staff including Dinshaw Padiwalla, the Chief Medical Officer appointed by IOA as the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Vinesh Phogat performed exceptionally at the Paris Olympics 2024. She registered the upset of the season when she defeated reigning Olympic gold medallist Yui Susaki in the Round of 16. In the quarter-final and semi-final she registered big wins against Oksana Livach and Yusneylys Guzman respectively. She became the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the final of an Olympics, and had even assured a fourth medal for India.
However, on the morning of her gold medal bout in the women’s 50kg category at the Paris Olympics, she was disqualified for being 100g overweight at the time of the weigh-in.
A day after being disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024, Vinesh Phogat made a heartbreaking post on X where she announced her retirement from wrestling all of a sudden.
