Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal found herself on radar of trolls after she revealed she was not aware that Javelin is a sport until Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Saina’s remarks invited brutal trolling, with a few mocking her for her lack of knowledge about sports and called her Kangna Ranaut Of sports.
“When Neeraj won, that is when I got to know that athletics has got this game, too. You’ll gain knowledge only when you see it, right? If you don’t see, how will you know? I did not know about javelin throw. Frankly, I didn’t know,” Nehwal had said in a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra.
Saina, who played three Olympics and won a bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012, gave a brilliant reply to the trollers and said that comparison with Kangna is a compliment. She hit back at the trollers saying it is easy to comment sitting at home but playing the sports is difficult,
“Thanks for the compliment. Kangana is beautiful, but I had to be perfect in my sport and I proudly achieved world number 1 and Olympic medal in badminton for my country,” wrote Nehwal on X. She added, “Again I will say this ghar pe baith ke comment karna easy hai and sports khelna difficult [I’ll say it again, it’s easy to comment from home, but playing sports is difficult].”
Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra failed to defend his gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics, however, he did win a Silver at the Paris Olympics, finishing second to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who became the first man from the country to win an individual gold medal in the history of Olympics.
