Bangladesh Anti-Quota Protesters Attack Homes of Hindus, Kill 2 Including Hindu Awami Leader

Bangladesh has been marred by the biggest crisis after Independence. While more than 100 people have been killed in anti-quota protests, incidents of Hindus being attacked in some parts of Bangladesh have been reported.

In Noakhali district of Bangladesh, anti-quota protests have escalated and protestors started attacking Hindus. In exclusive footage accessed by CNN-News18, attackers were seen trying to enter a Hindu home in Noakhali. They tried to break the gate of one Tanusreya Bhatta’s residence.

In the footage, women were seen terrified and crying while saying “bhagwan, bhagwan”.

In another incident, protestors killed two Hindus in the Rangpur town. They attacked and lynched Hindu Awami League leader Haradhan Roy and his nephew.

Top sources told CNN-News18 that the Indian government was in touch with the top brass in Bangladesh. “We are talking to the top brass of Bangladesh Government. Sheikh Hasina is also listening to our advice and we are working closely on this issue,” sources in the Indian government said.

“On the administrative side, we have issued advisory to Indians and students. Evacuation plans are in place and will be implemented very soon,” sources added.

What Are Bangladesh Protests About?

Bangladeshis have been protesting against 30 per cent quota for government jobs given to families of the 1971 war veterans. Owing to violence, the Supreme Court had decided to reduce the quota to 5 per cent. However, there has been no end to the protests with the crisis taking a new turn every day.

The protesters have been demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sources said the opposition in Bangladesh asked students and people to come with sticks and weapons to counter police and army. According to sources, citizens were also asked not to pay taxes and utility bills to show their dissent.

In exclusive footage, the Bangladesh army was seen supporting the movement by firing automatic weapons.
