‘Aap Mahabharat Mat Sunao’: Om Birla Tells BJP MP In Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Friday cut short a Member of Parliament and told him to ask his question instead of narrating Maharabharat as he said that stories of the Hindu epic Mahabharata are being narrated a lot in the House.

The incident took place when BJP MP from Odisha’s Bargarh, Pradip Purohit, while asking a question to the Union Ayush minister, referred to an ayurvedic college and traced back the history of the herbs found in the area to ancient times.

“Do not tell stories, ask the question (aap Mahabharat mat sunao, aap prashna poocho),” Birla told the member during the Question Hour, according to PTI.

Aaj kal, Mahabharat sunane ka kissa zyada chala hai yahan par (Nowadays, stories of the Mahabharata are being narrated a lot here),” Birla quipped further.

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chakravyuh’ Remark

The remark also comes after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi made a ‘chakravyuh’ to take a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government.

“Thousands of years ago, in Kurukshetra, six people trapped Abhimanyu in a ‘chakravyuh‘ and killed him. I did a little research and learned that ‘chakravyuh‘ is also known as ‘padmavuyh‘ – which means ‘Lotus formation’. The ‘chakravyuh‘ is in the shape of a Lotus,” Gandhi said while speaking during a debate in Parliament on the Union Budget.

Gandhi’s speech included references to the Mahabharat and accused the Modi government’s 2024 Union Budget of favoring big businesses and political monopolies that undermine democratic structures.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi with a reference to Hindu epic Mahabharat. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, Chouhan said the modern-day ‘chakravyuh’ references made in Parliament were of “adharm (unrighteousness)”.

“Even when he referred to the Mahabharat, he recalled Shakuni, Chausar, Chakravyuh and all these words are linked to unrighteousness. Jaki rahi bhavna jaisi, prabhu murat dekhi tin taisi,” Chouhan said in Rajya Sabha.

“Shakuni was a symbol of deceit, betrayal and fraud. Why does Congress always think of all this?” the BJP MP said.
