Students protests after Kerala college denies ‘dedicated’ space for Friday prayers

KOCHI: A section of students of Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, an autonomous institution , has initiated protests demanding allocation of spaces for offering prayers within the college premises. Protests began after the college authorities denied permission to some girl students belonging to a particular community to pray in the college restroom.

Amid protests, the authorities have decided not to provide a dedicated prayer space, stating that the college is a secular institution and cannot practically accommodate prayer rooms for all religions.
